William J. Mitchell is Professor of Architecture and Media Arts and Sciences at Massachusetts Institute of Technology and directs the Media Lab’s Smart Cities research group. He is the author of City of Bits: Space, Place, and the Infobahn and Placing Words: Symbols, Space, and the City.

Volker Hartkopf, Professor of Architecture. Center for Building Performance and Diagnostics, Carnegie Mellon University, is currently leading the Building of Power Plant (BAPP) project, which has been selected by the US Congress as the National Test-bed for Advanced Technology in Building. The 6,500 m2 project will be realized on the Carnegie Mellon Campus.
