Abstract: President Hosni Mubarak of the Arab Republic of Egypt shares his "hopeful vision" for transforming both the reality and the perception surrounding the Middle East stressing that the United States and Egypt must assist the Palestinians and Israelis through political negotiations to implement a two-state solution to the Palestinian question without interfering with the sequence outlined in the road map to peace. Mubarak also addresses questions concerning Prime Minister Sharon's plans for the Gaza Strip, the "very complicated" problem of Iraq, and economic reform.
