General Webcast Help

Welcome to the new and improved Rice University webcast page!

These pages have been designed to show you the latest webcast-related information at a glance as well as to provide you with access to past and future events. We hope that you will find them easy to navigate and use; however, we realize that not everything may be obvious at first. These help pages are here whenever you need them – you'll find a context-sensitive help link on every page in the left menu.

If you cannot find the information you need in these help files, please submit a help request.

What's on the Webcast Main Page

On the main Webcast page you'll find the following features:

Today's Live Events
If there are any live events today, you'll find them listed at the top of the main page. Click the bold title for more information about a particular event. The page will automatically show the links to the live streams 20 minutes prior to the event; the links will be available throughout the scheduled duration of the webcast plus an additional 20 minutes. While the links are available at these times, the presence of the live links does not necessarily mean the event is currently streaming. If there are no events scheduled, or an expected event is not in the list, other links will allow you access to the live stream if it is currently available.

Recently Archived Webcasts
Below the live events area there are two columns. The left column contains a short list of the five(5) most recent webcast events that have been archived for later viewing. This list changes as we add more archived talks. If a webcast interests you, click its title for more details or to view the streaming media. Below the list you'll find a link to browse through other archived webcasts or search for a particular event. If you're looking for a very recent webcast and it's not in the list, we may be working on creating the archive media; also, there's a chance that an archive copy was not requested or was explicitly forbidden. Subscribe to our RSS 2.0 XML feed to get the latest archive updates.

Upcoming Webcast Events
One of the best features of our new page is our upcoming event list – when we know about it, you'll know about it. Below the live events area there are two columns; the right column contains a list of up to five(5) future webcast events (if any). Click a title to view more information about a particular event. There's also a link to browse through all the future events we have in the schedule.

Searching for Past or Future Webcasts
In the "Recent Archived Webcasts" column, or in the left-hand menu on every Webcast page, there's a link to search our database. Use this powerful tool to locate a specific event or all the events in a particular series or by your favorite speaker. Our search page lets you search for both past and upcoming events by a wide range of criteria.
